Meet the Speaker

Dr Nazirul Hazim

Dr Nazirul Hazim A Khalim is a Lecturer in Econometrics and Business Statistics at the School of Business, Monash University Malaysia. His research sits at the intersection of applied econometrics and computational social science, with an emerging interdisciplinary interest in the cosmopolitan nature of the arts in Southeast Asia.

Beyond his core disciplinary focus, Dr Nazirul has studied the traditional art of tanjak-making under the guidance of Dr Johan Iskandar and is affiliated with PERNILAM – Pertubuhan Penggiat Seni Alam Melayu, a society dedicated to the appreciation and preservation of Malay heritage arts.

Nazirul’s session explored the history, variety and significance of Destar, Tanjak and Tengkolok in Malay society.
